Clarkia similis H. Lewis & W.R. Ernst
Stem: erect, < 9 dm, puberulent. Leaf: petiole < 8 mm; blade 2--4 cm, narrowly lanceolate to elliptic. Inflorescence: axis in bud recurved at tip; buds pendent. Flower: hypanthium 1.5--2 mm; sepals staying fused in 4s; corolla rotate to bowl-shaped, petals 6--10 mm, oblanceolate to diamond-shaped or obovate, pale pink, shading lighter near base, purple-flecked, fading darker; stamens 8, inner anthers << outer, paler; ovary shallowly 8-grooved, stigma not exserted beyond anthers. Chromosomes: n=17.
Ecology: Generally shady sites, woodland, chaparral; Elevation: < 1000 m. Bioregional Distribution: SCoRI (uncommon), SW. Flowering Time: Apr--Jun Note: Probably from hybrids between Clarkia epilobioides, Clarkia modesta.
