[Lemmermann (Ark. Bot. 2(2): 118-119, footnote. 1904) explained that "fastigiata" was a clerical error ("schreibfehler"), as is suggested by the description of a pointed posterior (to which the adjective "fastigate" applies). In 1903 (ForschBer. Biol. Stat. Plön 10: 259), Zacharias used the corrected spelling "Mallomonas fastigata".]
