Editorial Comments 1
|
Correspondence 1 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Vitis aestivalis Michx. is to be treated as a plant that does not occur in CA, in part because: the authors were not able to revisit the site reported by Hrusa (Sources a&b); herbarium specimens documenting the sp. in California are "lacking"; the sp. [natural?] range extends from the east to e TX; and there are cultivars that are hybrids with Vitis vinifera, but they have not been used in California vineyards, they very rarely occur as "backyard plantings", and although they may have escaped, rarely, from such plantings, the authors have not seen them.
