Pallas did not refer to the basionym (Trifolium officinalis L.) even indirectly."; that Greenhouse has been unable to locate a copy of the publication (Reise durch Verschiedene Provinzen des Russischen Reichs 3:537. 1776) to verify this statement; and that, assuming the IPNI-GCI note to be correct, the valid publication was by Lamarck (Lam. in Authors of Plant Names) in Flore Françoise 2:594 (1778), wherein Lamarck supplied his own description with no basionym reference. [Therefore, author citation corrected to Melilotus officinalis Lam., from Melilotus officinalis (L.) Pall. previously in this Index, 26 May 2010, although the protologue still needs to be seen for confirmation .] | |||||
