Initial Editorial Comments known to SMASCH; two records in SMASCH, JEPS95207 (E. Buxton, 24 Mar 1998, side of hwy, Moss Beach, San Mateo Co.), JEPS95209 (Ornduff 10168, 12 Apr 1998, side of hwy, Moss Beach, San Mateo Co.); see also Source d; according to Source e, in California naturalized outside of wildlands, although conditions of cited occurrence ("in cultivated field") seem not to qualify for inclusion in the flora according to criteria employed by Jepson Flora Project (20 Feb 2003)
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 24 Mar 2000 e-mail from Barbara Ertter see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates this taxon is either an overlooked (inconspicuous) native of California or the result of recent dispersal from elsewhere (BC possibly) and therefore not native to CA.
Correspondence 2 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates, in a note under the genus, that plants reported as Limnanthes macounii Trel. from CCo are variants of Limnanthes douglasii R. Br., citing Meyers er al. (2010 Syst Bot 35:552--558). [Although such wording often or usually indicates synonymy, in fact Limnanthes macounii Trel. was not listed as such, and so therefore must be considered an unresolved variant, of Limnanthes douglasii R. Br., for which the matter of taxonomic recognition or not requires further study, and therefore remains unresolved.]
