Editorial Comments 1 | Correspondence 1 indicates that Interchange Feedback from David Hollombe of 27 Sept 2005 points out that the name Malosma was coined as a subdivision of the genus Rhus in a manuscript by Nuttall quoted in Torrey & Gray (Flora of North America 1:219. 1838), wherein Nuttall states that he derived the name from the Greek words meaning strong odor, referring to the "aromatic odor, something like that of the Bitter Almond" of Rhus laurina. [Cf. etymology in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1], "Latin: from odor which resembles that of an apple".] | |
