b Hrusa et al., Madrono 49(2)61-98. 2002: DIST: SCo: Hrusa et al. Current Status: Naturalized in wildlands: DOC: DOC: Los Angeles Co.: San Gabriel Mtns, base of range at Padua Hills, W of mouth San Antonio Cyn. Disturbed alluvial fan and adjacent slopes with chaparral. Feb. 3, 1990, S. Boyd 3828 (CDA, RSA): San Diego Co.: South of Fallbrook. 100 yds W of Olive Hill Rd, approx. 1/4 mi. S of Mission Rd. (rd. S13), S side of Color Spot nursery. June 19, 2000, J. Giessow s.n. (CDA and to be distributed): NOTES: Original det. by E. McClintock (CAS); label det. of Boyd 3828 as Genista aetnensis (Biv.) DC. Treated in Flora Europaea as Lygos monosperma (L.) Heywood and listed by CalEPPC as Retama monosperma (L.) Boiss. We find the generic distinctions dubious. Under eradication on adjacent Camp Pendleton federal lands (pers. comm. from E. Johnson, May 2000). Specimen cited in Rejmanek and Randall (1994) as at DAV apparently was never deposited.
Initial Editorial Comments author citation uncertain, Genista monosperma Delile, Genista monosperma Lam., Genista monosperma Link in International Plant Names Index-Index Kewensis, Genista monosperma (L.) Lam. not in IPNI; naturalized in CA, not listed in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1], according to Simpson & Rebman, 1996; according to Source b, in California naturalized in wildlands, in SCo (14 Feb 2003)
Editorial Recommendation author citation to be checked [resolved]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 16 Jul 2003 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Genista monosperma was published by Lamarck in Dictionnaire Encyclopedique Methodique. Botanique. 2:616 (1788), based on Spartium monospermum L. in Species Plantarum 2:708 (1753). [Therefore, correct author citation is Genista monosperma (L.) Lam., as given in this Index.]
Correspondence 2 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Martin F. Wojciechowski see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Genista monosperma (L.) Lam. is to be treated as naturalized in CA, with a note that it is possibly only a waif in the state.
