Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 | 19 Sep 2005 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 | Correspondence 1 confirms that "novae-zelandiae", the genitive form of the epithet, was used in the original publication of Acaena novae-zelandiae Kirk (Transactions and Proceedings of the New Zealand Institute 3:177--178. 1871). [Therefore, spelling of epithet correct as indicated in this Index.]
Correspondence 2 | 3 Feb 2010 e-mail from Bryony Macmillan, author of Acaena for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 | Correspondence 2 indicates that, regarding the The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] misapplied name Acaena anserinifolia (J. R. Forst. & G. Forst.) Druce, John Francis Armstrong (Armstr. in Authors of Plant Names) validly made the combination in Acaena in the Transactions and Proceedings of New Zealand Institute 12: 338 (1880), preceding that made by Druce in 1917, which had been cited by all New Zealand and Australian floras, as well as this Index, and that the name had been misapplied to California herbarium specimens belonging instead to Acaena novae-zelandiae generally by Australian and Californian botanists up until the 1990s. [Therefore, author citation of The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] misapplied name corrected to Acaena anserinifolia (J. R. Forst. & G. Forst.) Armstr., from Acaena anserinifolia (J. R. Forst. & G. Forst.) Druce previously in this Index, 8 Feb 2010.]
