Life History:
sexual reproduction not demonstrated in Pacific coast populations, plants recycling by means of aplanospores ( Hanic 1979 ); in Europe, unisexual gametophytes producing biflagellate male gametes and non-flagellate female gametes; zygotic meiosis with genotypic sex determination; asexual reproduction not demonstrated ( Kornmann and Sahling 1974 ). Note: Bravo ( 1962, 1965 ) interpreted the results of her culture studies as showing that Prasiola meridionalis and Rosenvingiella constricta are phases in the same life history. This equivocal matter was reviewed by Tanner ( 1981, pp. 220 & ndash; 222 ). Display references
