28_34 Middle River Nov. 22, 1913. [San Joaquin Delta] and one can shake the ground by jumping on it. The wheels of a tractor engine may sink 3 ft. [feet] over night; the driver will rock his engine back and forth until able to get out. Went to Middle River today with Prof. Gregg on invitation of J.A. Sanford of Stockton. We were met by Sanford, Brown of Stockton, Ollahan, an expert on produce from Stockton and a wholesaler, and Filcher, (Roy Welton), class of 1906, Berkeley. It was a very beautiful day and we had a fine time in a launch cruising about the islands. The day was very brilliant and the willows still in foliage. Salix nigra |
28_35 Middle River (Moorland). San Joaquin Delta. very common. No Populus fremonti. Salix babylonica is the tree planted most commonly at the ranch houses, fine clusters in some places. |
