Cushions very close and even, forming flat surfaces a few inches to several inches square. Perianth white, pinkish in bud. High rocky slopes. 12,150 ft.

(8 in one fl.). Stamens inserted on the margin of a glandular disk, the center of dish surrounding carpels hairy. High rocky slope. Petals 1 1/2 lines long. 12,100 ft. See p. 148.

No. 7325. Phlox douglasii Hook. var. covillei Jepson. = P. covillei E. Nels.
Cor. pure white, limb 8 lines broad; stamens inserted high on tube unequally. Cor.-tube with a pubescent band just above ovary, not a heavy band. Forming dense even mats 2 to 8 in. broad, the flowers, each solitary and terminal on its short stem, rising to an equal height above the mat. Common on high rocky slopes. 12,300 ft. See p. 148.
