Calico Wash 2500 ft. Mohave Desert No. 5816. Eurotia lanata. Each fruit is in the axil of a bract. The horns of the sac are right and left, and there is a marked, i.e. ready line of fissure, median, separating the bracts as lateral, not fore and aft as in Atriplex, each bract terminating in the horn as appendage. Each bract has also a median clear line or midrib but is not so readily split along this line. The horn is terminal and is merely the lanceolate or attenuate apex which is conduplicate on itself! Ovary very hairy! - Fouquieria splendens. Miss Waterman calls it Candle Bush. "The least little rain sends it into leaf" Bright red flowers = flame
