Low shrub, 13 to 18 in. h., many-stemmed, forming broad clumps. No. 5436. [Gilia] = Phlox stansburyi Hel. Cor. salverform, pink-red, stamens 5 in tube, 3 inserted high near mouth, 2 inserted a little lower. See p. 116? for further account. No. 5437. Erigeron Rays white with a slight flush of pink; counts: 13, 13, 13. No. 5438. Berberis fremontii Torr. Bush 9 to 11 ft. h., many stems in clump. Stems 6 in. diam. at 4 in. above ground!! No. 5439. Purshia glandulosa Curran. Petals white, round-obovate drawn down to a cuneate claw. Stamens 19 to 25. Calyx-lobes recurving, roundish. Calyx-tube not glandular, minutely strigose. Shrub with shreddy bark & twisted stems 1 to 3 in. diam.

No. 5440. Stenotus [Haplopappus linearifolius var.] interior (Cov.) Comp. shrub 1/2 to 2 1/2 ft. h. Rays yellow, about 9. No. 5441. Gilia [Linanthus] aurea Nutt. [Greene] Dwarf, with filiform stems. Cor. yellow, funnelform with spreading limb of round-ovate lobes. Stamens short inserted in sinuses in throat. = Linanthus aureus Greene. No. 5442. Prunus fasciculata Gray [symbol for male] & [symbol for female?] bushes. 5-6 ft. h. divaricately branched. [symbol for male] fls. very numerous, thickly crowded on limbs far back of this year's growth. [symbol for female?] fls., as set, few. Bark gray, smooth. No. 5443. Yucca brevifolia Engelm. Leaf edge not fibrous. Per. segs. thick, much thickened towards apex (3 lines thick). Filaments globose-thickened at apex, the 2[?]-celled anthers with the cells
