Life History and Morphology:
not known with certainty for Pacific coast populations, but probably an alternation of free-living bisexual filamentous gametophytes with a unicellular sporophytes ( Chlorochytrium inclusum Kjellman ) endophytic in Schizymenia pacifica and other foliose red algae, with biflagellate gametes and quadriflagellate zoospores ( Chihara 1969 b ); in Europe, a similar alternation but with sporophyte identified as Codiolum petrocelidis Kuckuck, endophytic in petrocelis-stage ( Petrocelis cruenta J. Agardh ) of Mastocarpus stellatus ( Stackhouse ) Guiry ( J & oacute; nsson 1970; J & oacute; nsson 1962; J & oacute; nsson 1959; J & oacute; nsson 1958; J & oacute; nsson 1957 )  Display references
