Life History and Morphology:
not known with certainty for Pacific coast populations, but probably an alternation of free-living bisexual filamentous gametophytes with a unicellular sporophytes ( Chlorochytrium inclusum Kjellman ) endophytic in Schizymenia pacifica and other foliose red algae, with biflagellate gametes and quadriflagellate zoospores ( Chihara 1969 b ); in Europe, a similar alternation but with sporophyte identified as Codiolum petrocelidis Kuckuck, endophytic in petrocelis-stage ( Petrocelis cruenta J.
