Life History:
uninvestigated in Pacific coast populations; in Europe and Japan, unisexual gametophytic filaments alternating with a unicellular sporophyte by means of quadriflagellate zoospores and biflagellate isogametes; filaments recycling by means of aplanospores and zoospores similar to those produced by sporophyte; parthenogenesis common (Lokhorst 1979; Ohgai and Fujiyama 1976; Ohgai et al., 1975; Kornmann 1964); in one strain (U. acrorhiza), filaments recycling by means of quadriflagellate zoospores, sexual reproduction lacking (Kornmann 1964) Display references
