uninvestigated in Pacific coast populations; in the Atlantic ( including the Mediterranean ), some isolates apparently lacking sexual reproduction, recycling by means of quadriflagellate zoospores ( Yarish 1975 ), other isolates with an alternation of isomorphic phases, the unisexual or bisexual gametophytes producing biflagellate anisogametes, the sporophyte producing quadriflagellate zoospores ( O ' Kelly and Yarish 1981 b, p. 35 )
