The Charterhouse Herbarium contains three volumes of Illustrations of British Botany by Dundee botanist William Gardiner. The volumes contain mostly collections from his native Scotland and in particular the Sidlaw Hills region. Due to the highly ornamental appearance of his collections these bound volumes, often with multiple specimens per page, do not have accession numbers. Accession numbers in the form of barcodes are found at the beginning of each volume and cross referenced to the specimen. Gardiner's collections usually contain fairly accurate locality data and the specimens are often to be found in a reporoductive state to assist identification. Seeveral of the pages have already been imaged as a result of loan requests and will shortly be made available on-line.
