  January 5  —  Bug fixes

  1.  A bug in the SQL search for names at the genus-level was fixed, all specimens having a determination that starts with the matching genus name will now display in search results. Genus-only searches were coming up with no records previously due to updates in December.

Updates for 2021

December 6  —  new and restored features

  1.  New Records log for each update is active again (https://ucjeps.berkeley.edu/consortium/new_log_name.html)
  2.  New Determinations log for each update is active again (https://ucjeps.berkeley.edu/consortium/new_det_log_name.html)
  3.  Name Change log for each update added as a new feature (https://ucjeps.berkeley.edu/consortium/name_change_log.html)

  4.  — All three links to the most current update logs can be found under the webpage header "Update History/Recent Update Logs". A comprehensive log of all CCH1 updates from 2008 onward can be found in the header link "Update History/CCH1 Record Log Archive" which leads to this webpage: https://ucjeps.berkeley.edu/consortium/record_log_archive.html.
     — Name changes used to happen in the background in the original CCH. Scripts altered problem names during the loading process. Many changed names were reported to herbaria in the error logs. None of these changes were apparent online to users. Most of these problem names are unpublished names on the herbarium label and are still the currrent ID even in CCH2. In the past, unpublished names were altered to just the genus or skipped entirely. Since the original CCH did not have a comprehensive determination history field, one could not determine if a specimen name was changed from that in the home database This is no longer done in CCH1. Hcanged names can be found on the Name Change log (see link above). The ICPN keeps track of unpublished or illegitimate names researched by the editor. That tracking is now applied in CCH1. If a unpublished name is not in the ICPN, it is placed into a Not In EFlora (NIEF) nomen_rej.txt holding table and marked as an unpublished name in the details page. For example see the many unpublished Trifolium species names by Randall Morgan, including Trifolium fax - (UCSC100002137.)

  November 30  —  new features

  1.  First loading date and determination added to the detailed specimen record.
     — CCH1 has a long-recorded history of the names and the dates for each specimen was loaded into the database. Eventually, there will be a database determination log avalable for all specimens, showing the date for each time a name was changed for a CCH1 record. The first step of this process has been to add the date for the first time a specimen was loaded into the original CCH and determination for that first load.

  October 28  —  Bug fixes

  1.  Specimens with unpublished taxon names used to be tossed out completely or modified to just the genus in CCH1 prior to 2018. One goal of the new CCH1 is to be more transparent with changes made to data. For the past two months, unpublished taxon names were replaced with a phrase from the ICPN used for names studies by editors: unpublished, invalidly published, illegitimate, or rejected name. However, not having a name in the display name field created bugs in searches, sorting, and other website functions. This phrase is better placed in status, even though many of these names have no offical ICPN status and have never been vetted by Jepson Flora editors. Now, the unpublished name is used as a display name and a NIEF (Not In EFlora) status phrase is provided for the eflora status. None of these can be given an actual accepted name because Jepson Flora editors have not investigated them, unlike similar unpublished names treated in ranks 1b, 2b, etc in the ICPN.

  October 10  —  Bug fixes

  1.  Queries of specimens determined as an eflora accepted name that have no synonyms (such as Eriodictyon capitatum) were resulting in a query of all specimen records. This bug has been fixed. Searches using eflora names without synonyms now appear to display correctly in search results.

  October 5  —  Bug fixes

  1.  A bug in the SQL search for synonyms was fixed, synonyms will now display in search results.
