Canyon among hills, +- urbanized Monterey pine (Pinus radiata) forest with vacant lots, roadsides, etc. More intact slopes also with Quercus agrifolia, Rhamnus californica, Heteromeles, Toxicodendron, Baccharis pilularis, Salix, Rubus ursinus, Bromus carinatus, etc.
Uncommon but widely scattered 1.5-8 m shrubs, at disturbed road edges and on slopes; petals and filaments white, anthers yellow-green. Sepals reflexed.
