Liebre Mountains Region: Upper watershed of Osito Canyon between Interstate 5 and the Old Ridge Route, vicinity of Osito Flat, a distinctive, open, grassy break in slope under high tension power lines.
Steep-sided ridges of bedded sedementary rocks, dropping to narrow, winding canyon bottoms. Osito Flat area with deeper, clay soils situated on extensive break in slope. Entire area burned in August 1996.
Before burn, open chaparral of Adenostoma fasciculatum, Eriogonum fasciculatum, etc on slopes, grassland with Stipa, Avena fatua, etc at Osito Flat. Post fire annuals well developed, especially Lotus salsuginosus, etc
