Boulders and coarse sand wash; boulders, talus, and rock outcrops on banks. Clay, silt, gravel, and loam soil, 10YR 3&slo;2 very dark grayish brown. Earlier Precambrian metamorphic rocks. Mojave desert scrub. Growing in crack between rocks, in shade, on east-facing slope.
