Piute Canon up to 10,400-10,600′; Subalpine For. to 10,800′ (even 11,200′ on few favored rocky slopes): occas. Pinus Albicaulis Krumholtz to 11,200′, rare specimens to 11,600′: basin mostly above 11,000′ and alpine with extensive areas herbaceous Alpine cover. This Aquilegia under a boulder facing e. over the tarn ca. 1-4 m. below Lower Desolation - ca. 11,100. (A formosa seen in a specially favored spot nearly 500 high ne. of main Desolation L.0 Phyllodoce & Casslope flg. nearly.
