Alluvial flats and moderate to steep slopes, granitic substrate with large boulder outcrops, loose, decomposed granite soils. Vegetation recently burned (2006 or 2007), formerly dominated by scrub of Artemisia tridentata, Chryosothamnus nauseosus, Yucca brevifolia on flats, drier slopes, scrubby woodland of Pinus sabiniana, Pinus monophylla, Quercus wislizeni, Quercus chrysolepis, Fremontodendron californicum, Ribes spp., Cercocarpus betuloides, Ceanothus vestitus, Rhamnus californica on steeper slopes and more mesic exposures. Rich and diverse display of annuals and perennial herbs on burned area and in adjacent areas of unburned vegetation. Annual, flowers yellow, bracts prominent with large white patch in center. Locally common on slope.
