San Bernardino Mtns.: Wildlands Conservancy Oak Glen Preserve property, vicinity of Los Rios Rancho, along trail from upper pond to Hidden Hollow, Oak Knoll Park, and headquarters. Elev. given as 4525-4870 ft.
Canyons and ridges; loam soil, sometimes rocky; oak woodland, chaparral, apple orchards, and willow riparian thickets with Quercus kelloggii, Q. wislizeni, Q. berberidifolia, Garrya, Acer negundo, Salix lasiolepis, etc. On shaded slope near pond.
About 10 trees; all spontaneous and none grafted. Ranging from 1.5 m saplings to large old trees and clearly reproducing at site. Bark pale gray, darker than regia. Lat/Long as stated is shown as +- 1000m.
