Habitat  ?   Summit and adjacent slopes a mosaic of open areas and thickets. Thickets composed of Q. kelloggii, Qu. wislizeni frutescens, hybrids between these two, Rhamnus tomentella cuspidata, Sambucus mexicana, Ceanothus leucodermis, Cercocarpus betuloides, Lonicera interrupta, Keckiella ternata septentrionalis, etc. In grassy openings. 
Notes  ?   Hrusa, 2014, notes, ″ Unusual form w- single leader.″ Annual, locally common; mostly in late-bloom now, and primarily visited by needle-nosed bee-flies (Bombyliidae); lower leaves deeply divided, mostly withered now; stem glabrous and glaucous below inflorescence; calyx +- 2.5 mm long at anthesis; corolla +- 8 -10 mm; corolla lobes light lavender-pink, paler proximally; upper throat pale lavender; lower throat gold; narrow tube (in calyx) nearly colorless below, dull purplish or burgundy above, anthers pale blue, held close to the throat.
