Habitat  ?   Desert scrub dominated locally by Larrea tridentata, Hymenoclea salsola, Ambrosia dumosa, with scattered Yucca brevifolia, Lycium cooperi, etc. 
Notes  ?   Rounded shrubs 6-12 dm high, scattered locally. Stems and leaves gray-green; calyx bladdery-inflated, muddy burgundy at anthesis, drying/maturing straw-colored and papyraceous; upper corolla lip short, cream-colored; lower lip long, rich indigo blue.
