Habitat  ?   Sandy loam, crumbling sandstone with metamorphosed inclusions. Moderate to steep slopes with rock outcrops. With: Platanus racemosa, Quercus agrifolia, Q. lobata, Adenostoma fasciculatum, Rhamnus spp, Toxicodendron diversilobum, Mimulus aurantiacus. Infrequent, growing in rock crevices. 
Notes  ?   Perennial. Erect, to 8 dm tall. Densely cespitose. Fruit mature.
