Barstow to Stoddard's Well
- The road leads south from Barstow. It runs over the mesa many miles with Calico Mt. in view to rear left. We pass a smmit and descend into a broad valley where there is good botanizing; ascend a low range and pass through it onto a descending slope into and up a narrow valley to Stoddards Well which is on a spur (north side of it), east fo Stoddard's Peak, the prominent landmark of this country and towards which we had been heading all day. We got in late and began to get anxious about water supply, when the tank could be seen shining under the last rays of the descending sun. It is a beautiful camp spot, with fine view, good grass and abundant & good water.
