27_118 Berkeley ---------- anything. If he had a notice from Wells Fargo five years ago that a package was at the office for him such a notice would be found in his papers. The Cal. Acad. sent a man down to pack the butterflies for shipment. The Acad. was much disturbed to find that the types of many of Wright's new species were not in the collection. Later on when the hay was removed from the barn, a trunk was found under the hay. This trunk contained the last types and many other specimens packed just as they had come back from Chicago whither Wright had sent them for the making of the color-photo plates for his butterfly book. 27_119 27 May 1913 ---------- West Coast" sent him at San Bernardino from the printer in San Francisco where the book was printed. The rest of the stock was destroyed in the San Francisco earthquake, a few (?) months later. Wright had, however, taken the precaution to run off a ? thousand or so extra copies of the plates and these had been sent to San Bernardino before the disaster Wright lived next door to the Rolfe's and was very friendly with this family. Peter Olsson-Seffer married one of the Rolfe girls. - McClatchie, A.J., died at Montebello near Los Angeles on Feb. 11, 1906, aged 45 years. - Eucharidium concinnum in fine show in the Martinez Hills, Mar. 25, as seen from Santa Fe train. |
