No. 4166. Pinus radiata Dou.
A_o Nuevo Creek. I had expected to find this pine at Pescadero as per the books, but I saw nothing of it. The country is entirely barren near the sea and if there were a bunch of pines one ought ot be able to see them. I followed the inner road ( 3 miles from shore) down the coast as far as Gazos Ck, then out to the coast. On the inner road we passed near the tongues of Redwood and Douglas Fir which came out from the main body, but at the mouth of Gazos Ck, we surveyed the perfectly barren country about Pigeon Pt. light, north and especially south, for on account of the headland one can not see far north. Going down off the table-land at Whitehouse Ck. one passes across a great flat lying just south of Greenoaks Ck. one sees the Monterey Pines. This is 10 miles in an air line from Pescadero and 15 by the coast. South of Finny Creek the beach is bounded by cliffs 400 to 500 ft. h. on the face and top of which the pines cling making a strong impression on one standing on the sea shore.
No. 4167. Eriogonum latifolium
Sea beach just south of A_o Nuevo Pt.
