but not so very tall. There is ample reproduction. Along the mountain side they continue southward, coming down to the sea in thin lines along two creeks (one of these being Finney Creek). A little south of Finney Creek the wagon road drops to the beach on account of high cliffs which here rise from the sands of the ocean shore. All along the top of this cliff and on the face of it are the Monterey Pines, presenting a most picturesque spectacle to the wayfarer below. From the summit of this mountainous cliff they descend nearly to the floor of the ca_on - valley

Umbellularia californica at Swanton. Several other trees like this in the yard of the dwelling house.

2 1/2 ft. diam.


Most remarkable swollen bases I ever saw, considering the diameter of the trunk above.

About 20 ft. high to crotch from ground.

12 ft. diam at ground.
