Nurnberg
Came here last night from Stuttgard -- 4 hrs. Nurnberg is certainly an interesting old city and while the central part is ancient, there are many fine new buildings, broad streets and a general air of prosperity and go-ahead-ness. The old walls and picturesque tower gates still surround the old town for the most part intact, and it is the policy to have all new buildings within the walls conform to the old plan or rather style of architecture. I followed the walls nearly around the whole city. The river divided the city into two parts, the St. Sebaldus side and the side.

On the St. Sebaldus side of the town is the row of Weaver's Houses, 7 in a row, each house separate, the row standing in a broad street as it were. On the first house is the following legend: Der Linnen Weberei zu frommen Liesz Weber man von Augsburg Kommen. There is a fresco of St. Sebaldus, patron saint of Nurnberg; fresco of the pilgrimage of the weavers: Then follows: "Am Schwalenburg auf Felsengrund Stehn sieben Zeilen bis zur Stund Got sei der Fels von Deutscher Land Und schutz uns mit all'macht'ger Hand".
