= Dr. Henry is paying special attention to bark characters in British grown trees and notes how well they agree with sexual characters. He also says that occasional individuals in all species will veer off strangely in bark character. I have noticed this in Quercus

garryana which has a smooth whitish finely ribbon-fissured bark and yet which occasionally produces a tree whose bark wholly or in part is thick and broken like that of Quercus lobata. So lobata may sometimes display the garryana bark!
