14_178 Berkeley - Ownership of Herb. [Herbarium] Plants. Dr. Janet Perkins told me that German botanists had their private herbaria and no one questioned their right. Dr. Perkins has been so long at Berlin that she is familiar with conditions. Hitchcock evidently has private plants as see his letter of Aug. '12. I belive that it is a disadvantage for a working botanist like myself to take care of and retain his dried plants but sometimes one cannot follow out his wishes or rather preferences in these matters. - Aug.
