10_170 Ukiah to Lyon's Valley (Miyakma Range.) - Ceanothus cuneatus -- very marked contrast between color of foliage and branches -- the dull-green leaves against the white branches. - Maul Oak tree, just above a rustic gate (75 yards) in Mill Creek Canon, 16 ft 4 in at 4 ft. from ground, the trunk practically maintaining its girth to 35 feet where it parts into great branches forming the crown the top of which is 110 ft. above the ground. This tree is well up the canon. - Sweet Shrub here in Mill Creek Canon. Is it in Seaward Ranges? - Depth of soil is very great at Purdy's new garden. In making the terraces he has cut vertically 4 ft. or 5 ft. and still no indication of the soil giving out. |
10_171 July 2, 1903. - Douglas Oak, 12 ft. 4 in. at 4 ft. 3 in. from ground, stands just inside first gate on road to Mill Creek Canon; 66 [60?] ft. h. See No. 2239. - Fine Live Oak in farm yard opposite Asylum Gate; shelters several wagons and room for more; is a broad-headed tree. - Fine Valley Oak, 110 ft. high, just beyond hop-field, south side of road inside fence, within one mile of Asylum (west). - Fine Cottonwood (Fremonti) by Russian River Bridge, road to Asylum, 150 ft. high. No. 2243. Quercus Wislizenii. at Log Barn, head of Mill Creek Canon 10-12 ft. h., forming part of chapparral here. |
