Low Gap to Ukiah
- Driving along the ridge yesterday, the leaves from a high Madrona came fluttering down on the roadway ahead of us. We drove straight through the light shower. It was a calm day, the woods were pulseless in the quiet -- but anon a whiff of a breeze would stir -- and then the madrona shower.

- We passed 7 four-horse teams on the grade, hauling out Redwood from the Redwood Mills near Low Gap. The teams were made up of fine draught horses but it was a great struggle to get up the hill. The freshly sawed Redwood is very heavy. Their loads were sawed yesterday. The teamsters say some of it will run 8 to 10 lbs. to foot;
