Usal to Cotonaby Creek

- Tan Oak, 2 mi. beyond Usal (south), 6 ft. 4 in. diam! 90-95 ft. h. This is on the ocean bluff tops where the fine redwoods are.
- Coming down into Cotonaby Creek from the ridge one has a fine view of the windswept Redwoods in Cotonaby Canon. Most of them look as if they had put all their foliage on their heads as a flat hat as a protection against the wind which funnels into the canon from the ocean a few hundred yards away. Their whitened trunks stand out against the light-green ground-cover of Thimble-berry [Rubus parviflorus.] et al.
