[Cyclotella comta var. unipunctata Fricke 1900 is listed as a synonym and both names are seemingly merged into a new species, Cyclotella cyclopunta. The status of the combination is uncertain. Cf. Håkansson, Diat. Res. 17: 77. 2002]
