[Named for Mr. Lilly Wigg, schoolteacher and naturalist. What is the reason for the aitch in the epithet? Harvey (Phyc. Brit. Syn.: xxviii. 1851) spelled the epithet "Wiggii" (but in Genera of South African Plants: 366. 1838, spelled a proposed generic name "Wigghia": "Chaetospora of Agardh, founded on the beautiful Fucus Wiggii, Turn. must, I presume, yield to this. It might be appropriately called Wigghia elegans.")]
