Hildenbrandia crouanii J. Agardh
Sp. alg. 2: 495. 1851. (L)
Type locality: France: Brest
Collector: Crouan

See image Haematophlaea crouanii (J. Agardh) P. Crouan & H. Crouan 1858 (T)
[as Hildenbrandtia crouani. There is uncertainty about the formation of the epithet, with some advocating alteration to "crouaniorum". Because the it is in genitive singular, the epithet would appear to honor one male person named Crouan. However, the brothers Pierre Louis Crouan and Hyppolyte Marie Crouan with one exception (that in Mémoires de la Société linnéenne de Normandie 5. 1833) published as joint authors (Crouan frat., Crouan frères, Crouan fr., MM. Crouan); still, there is no direct indication that Agardh intended to honor both brothers with the epithet: he cited as collection data: "prope Brest (Crouan!)". J. Agardh proposed many honorific epithets, but it seems that he never used the genitive plural. His father, however, published Conferva neesiorum, to honor the brothers Nees von Esenbeck.]
