Type locality: UK: England: Sussex (fide Dillenius)

The Later Starting-point rule applies to the type of Rivularia, but not to this species, which is accepted to be a green alga. The space in the original two-word epithet was first removed by Bory, who replaced it with a hyphen, which is allowed by the Code. Bory's choice must be followed.
