HabitatLodgepole forest. Piute Canyon up to 10,400-10,600'; subalpine forest to 10800' (even 11200' on few favored rocky slopes) occas Pinus albicaulis Krumholtz to 11200', rare specimens to 11600' basin mostly above 11000' and Alpine with extensive areas herbaceous alpine cover.
