macromorphologyScattered. Erect annual herb, stiff-branched; stalked-glandular-hairy, glands yellow; distal leaves & peduncle bracts spine-tipped. Heads radiate, corollas yellow, phyllaries in 1 series, each enclosing glabrous ray fruit compressed side-to-side, paleae purple lined, in 1 series subtending disk flowers, disk anthers purple, pappus of 3-5 scales.
