Locality On the border of Sonoma County. Private property at 4028 Spring Mountain Road. West of the town of St. Helena. Western side of property, west of main road and near property boundary.
Elevation 614 m
HabitatRemnant chaparral and meadow with seep. Not much water evident on surface of soil but vegetation indicates abundant subsurface moisture. Dominants include Juncus, Carex, and weedy grasses and herbs. Surrounding upland vegetation includes Quercus durata, Baccharis pilularis, Arctostaphylos and Ceanothus. Soil here is mapped as volcanic with serpentine nearby. Subsurface moisture drains below nearby forest to drainage pond downslope (across road). Common shrub here indicating interesting soils, perhaps serpentine or on the edge of serpentine. Seen along roadsides of property and at this meadow site in uplands. Growing near what appears to be Q. berberidifolia.
