Locality Cache Creek Wilderness area, southern edge of wilderness, accesssed via eastern forks of Rocky Creek Road and then via a private road owned by Stephen Gilardi (an area known as Brushy Sky High on some maps).
Elevation 766 m
HabitatSerpentine formation consisting of a crater of reddish, rocky barrens and drainages with surprising amounts of running water. Lower slopes and drainages with Cupressus sargentii and Pinus attenuata. Upper exposed slopes mostly unvegetated except for Streptanthus and Eriogonum spp. This plant is extremely common, found throughout barrens slopes. Growing here on steep slopes with Eriogonum nudum and E. dasyanthumum. Very little else present on the slopes. Biennial or perennial herb with many first year rosettes present in the population. Plants to ca. 3-5 dm tall with deciduous basal leaves. Flowers of inflorescence one-sided sometimes and spiraled other times. Upper petals white with fine purple veins. Lower petals with dark purple stripe that takes up most of petal width or with several wide veins. Fruits ascending, not reflexed, with constrictions between seeds and no obvious midvein. Aphids are attacking some plants. Some rosettes look like they almost expanded into a flowering plant, but they were stunted by aphids, but non-flowering rosettes definitely present too.
