Locality At base of Mount Diablo, on road from Byron to Clayton (Highway 4), along banks of Marsh Creek.

HabitatGrowing along roadside and shady banks, under Quercus, Rhus, Platanus. Herbage glabrous, capsule and calyx tomentose, calyx either united and pushed to one side or splitting regularly with sometimes at least two joined at tips, flowers light violet, anthers carmine, nodding or pendulous in bud, erect in anthesis.
