HabitatA deciduous individual, distressed windblown, high on a grassy ridge above Laguna Seca; small tree, heavily browsed by sheep; associated with Rosa californica, grasses, on aged sandstone (old sand dunes), full sun, wind, and slope exposures. Winter buds (twigs) in pocket #1 (collected on 24 January 2008), leaves in pocket #2 (collected in late December), and photos taken of the specimen show the windblown-browsed form of the specimen in its surroundings in pocket #3. Mounted branch is collected on 6 Dec 2007. (Note from Tucker: 'Can be Q. lobata, except that the pubescence on the lower side of the leaves is much more similar to Q. garryana than to typical Q. lobata.')
