County | Solano |
Locality | Stebbins Cold Cayon Reserve; trail ca. 200 ft. below the small wooden bridge, in the last half-mile or so below the homestead; (exact location unknown, coordinates estimated by label maker). |
Habitat | Tree ca. 30-35 ft. tall; fairly straight erect trunk, and many of the dead leaves on the ground suggested genetic influence of Shreve oak (Q. parvula var. shrevei). These same traits were true of several other trees along the trail. The leaves on the branchlets we secured, however, were more nearly Q. wislizeni, and didn't show much Shreve influence. Nevertheless, the dead leaves on the ground under this and several other trees, clearly did show such influence: large, oblong, entire margins, and slightly acuminate tips. |
