Locality Humphreys Basin, Headwaters Plute Creek, Trib. South fork San Joaquin River, west over Sierran Crest from Bishop, Inyo county; Mt. Humphreys E-NE 13,986'; Lowest spot on rim NE around E to SW 12,400'. Short distance west and above Desolation Creek ca 3/4 m N-NE of Golden Trout L.
HabitatLodgepole forest. Plute Canyon up to ca. 10,400' - 10,600', subalpine forest to 10,800' (even 11,200' on few favored rocky slopes) Occasional Pinus albicaulis krumholtz to 11,200' - rare specimens to 11,600'. Basin mostly above 11,000' and Alpine with extensive areas herbaceous alpine cover. A few clumps of this Carex at margine of very small rock tarn at around 11,120' in a moraine.
