Locality Upper French Canyon Basin (Trib. Plute Creek and South Fork San Joaquin Rib.) West over Sierran Crest from Bishop, Inyo County Royce and Meriam Parks. N-NW over 13,000' Pine Creek. Pass north 11,000'. Moon L. on lowest lake bench south side of Basin.
HabitatLodgepole forest. French Canyon up to ca. 10,400', subalpine forest to 11,000' (even 11,200') on favored rocky slopes occasioanlly. Pinus albicaulis krumholtz to 11,200' - rare specimens to 12,000'. Basin mostly alpine with extensive areas herbaceous alpine cover. This carex in a large clump with culms arching out - at edge of creek, well-down slope toward next 1. w. from sm. pond below 10,998 Moon L. on lowest lake bench on s. side of basin. Salix orestera along outlet creek and seepages; good-sized P. albicaulis, reduced to Krumholtz on broken cliff to s.; many herbs.
